I had the pleasure of trying a very complicated products liability case with Cale Conley and Davis Popper. If I could give Cale and his firm more than 5-Stars I would. Not only is he a great attorney, he and his firm and partners take good care of clients and care deeply about them. I am totally confident in referring any case or client to him. Not just in Atlanta or Georgia, but anywhere. In my opinion, Cale is one of the best Attorneys in the United States. Over the past few years I have referred several clients with large and complex cases to Cale and his firm and have been extremely impressed with the results he has obtained! When I finally had the chance to refer a case to Cale and work with him as a colleague, I was blown away by the level of his professionalism, knowledge and skill. I first heard about Cale through other lawyers, who talked about his remarkable skill and great results as a trial attorney. Contact our office to schedule a free consultation if you have been injured in a bus accident. It is important for passengers that sustain injuries during a negligent bus accident to have an experienced common carrier personal injury attorney on their side to look at all options for compensation for their injuries.Īt Conley Griggs Partin LLP, we represent clients that have been seriously injured in a MARTA bus accident caused by negligence on the part of the bus driver. MARTA is a common carrier and has a responsibility to provide safe transport, but it is also a public entity, which can limit legal options for personal injury lawsuits. Unlike a personal auto accident, bus accidents caused by driver negligence are not as simple to receive compensation for injured passengers. “Extraordinary care” is the legal term used to describe the duties of common carriers, which means any negligence that causes harm or injury to passengers may result in liability for MARTA. As professionals and as a common carrier employee, bus drivers are expected to go above and beyond when performing their duties. MARTA buses are considered “common carriers,” and with that designation comes a responsibility to provide excellence when transporting the general public. When riders are seriously injured while riding a MARTA city bus due to driver negligence, they may be able to pursue compensation for their injury through an auto accident injury lawsuit.Ĭity bus organizations have a duty to provide safe transportation for their passengers. In general, buses are a safe and economical way to travel, but mistakes by drivers can occur. Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) buses are a main source of transportation for many people in the Atlanta area. City Bus MARTA Accidents Lawsuit Injury Lawyer

“Can you defend yourself? You look really weak.” “Do you work out?” Larry would ask Talia’s friends. His machismo was out of place on the liberal-arts campus. He had a clean-shaven head and favored polo shirts cut to make his 50-year-old frame look hulking. Larry was of average height and overweight, yet he could be intimidating. He loved to preach the values of the Marine Corps and dropped references to his relationships with high-ranking American military officers. While they ate, he told them stories in a nasal Brooklyn accent about his long and decorated history as a government agent, his former work as an international CIA operative, how he recovered Stinger missiles off the black market and engineered a cease-fire in Kosovo. He planted himself in the common area, cooking steak dinners and ordering expensive delivery for Talia and her seven housemates. Within days of his release, Larry Ray moved onto Sarah Lawrence’s campus. So in late September 2010, at the beginning of sophomore year, when Talia told her housemates that her father was getting out of prison and needed to crash with them for a while, they were mostly unfazed. Talia, who had grown up in New Jersey, was old for a freshman and had become the de facto leader of her group of friends, organizing their housing for the next year at Slonim Woods 9, a drab two-story brick dorm in the middle of campus. He’d been sent to prison for his heroic efforts to save her and her younger sister from their abusive mother, and his incarceration was the result of deep-seated government corruption. He was a truth teller, she’d explain, who’d been silenced by a group of powerful, vindictive men. Anyone who spent time with Talia Ray during her first year at Sarah Lawrence College heard her talk about her father. Testing RCA Interconnect Cablesįor this test, we searched our lab for easily accessible interconnect cables and set them up with our QuantAsylum QA402 and a high-quality Class-AB amplifier to measure how different designs and cable lengths would affect frequency response. We’ll dive into that discussion and include suitable testing in another article. The ability to reject unwanted electrical noise and interference is far more crucial to creating an audio system that is enjoyable. In a car audio system, cable performance at audio frequencies is a microscopically small portion of the story. Switching from an inexpensive coaxial cable to a premium twisted-pair cable with extensive shielding will produce a difference in what you hear, under very controlled conditions. We’ve participated in at least a dozen double-blind cable comparisons with our home audio friends, and there’s no doubt that differences exist. The purpose of an interconnect is to pass a low-level audio signal without affecting its amplitude (level), frequency or time (phase) characteristics. Do Different RCA Cable Designs Sound Different? Since we love a good experiment, let’s set up a number of cable designs and see if we can measure any appreciable difference in performance. If the perceived differences were huge, then one brand or design would stand out consistently. When it comes to car audio applications, very few consumers would ever consider comparing cables from different brands under properly controlled conditions. You can invest the price of a small car in wires to connect a source unit to an amplifier. Some of these creations even have batteries built into them to provide a DC bias on the conductors that is supposed to improve performance. You can choose from 3-foot coaxial cables at prices from under $5 to well over $20,000 for some of the most bespoke, story-laden offerings. If you follow any of the high-end home audio magazines or social media groups, you know that interconnect cables and the stories around them are an entire industry. He had grown accustomed to the obliterating conditions, overcoming miseries that would’ve broken just about anyone else. On the ice, though, he resembled a beast, hauling and sleeping, hauling and sleeping, as if he were keeping time to some primal rhythm. He was also a sculptor, a fierce boxer, a photographer who meticulously documented his travels, a horticulturalist, a collector of rare books and maps and fossils, and an amateur historian who had become a leading authority on Shackleton. Worsley was a retired British Army officer who had served in the Special Air Service, a renowned commando unit. One misstep and he’d vanish into a hidden chasm. His eyes scanned the surface for crevasses. When the terrain became too steep, he removed his skis and trudged on foot, his boots fitted with crampons to grip the ice. The trek had begun at nearly sea level, and he’d been ascending with a merciless steadiness, the air thinning and his nose sometimes bleeding from the pressure a crimson mist colored the snow along his path. Worsley’s sled-which, at the outset, weighed three hundred and twenty-five pounds, nearly double his own weight-was attached to a harness around his waist, and to drag it across the ice he wore cross-country skis and pushed forward with poles in each hand. And, whereas Shackleton had been part of a large expedition, Worsley, who was fifty-five, was crossing alone and unsupported: no food caches had been deposited along the route to help him forestall starvation, and he had to haul all his provisions on a sled, without the assistance of dogs or a sail. The journey, which would pass through the South Pole, was more than a thousand miles, and would traverse what is arguably the most brutal environment in the world. Sixty-two days earlier, on November 13, 2015, he’d set out from the coast of Antarctica, hoping to achieve what his hero, Ernest Shackleton, had failed to do a century earlier: to trek on foot from one side of the continent to the other. According to his coördinates, he was on the Titan Dome, an ice formation near the South Pole that rises more than ten thousand feet above sea level. device to determine precisely where he was. The man, whose name was Henry Worsley, consulted a G.P.S. The temperature was nearly minus forty degrees Fahrenheit, and it felt far colder because of the wind, which sometimes whipped icy particles into a blinding cloud, making him so disoriented that he toppled over, his bones rattling against the ground. Get wet and you die, he often reminded himself. It was hard to breathe, and each time he exhaled the moisture froze on his face: a chandelier of crystals hung from his beard his eyebrows were encased like preserved specimens his eyelashes cracked when he blinked. Every direction he turned, he could see ice stretching to the edge of the Earth: white ice and blue ice, glacial-ice tongues and ice wedges. The man felt like a speck in the frozen nothingness. Prime is becoming an increasingly appealing proposition that goes far beyond free shipping, with the recent inclusion of new perks, like its Thursday Night Football live stream and the music catalogue expansion. Why would they not? Of course, not everyone is a Prime member, but with 200 million members worldwide, such a shift could have a sizable impact on other podcast platforms. Death on Spotify will likely shift their listening of that same podcast to Amazon. This means that a consumer who has a Prime subscription and normally listens to, say, Dr. Most of these podcasts are also available on other platforms, like Spotify and Apple Podcasts. Death and SmartLess, as well as podcasts from NPR, ESPN, CNN and the New York Times. That includes Amazon exclusives, hits from Wondery (which Amazon owns), such as Dr. Prime now offers the largest selection of ad-free podcasts anywhere. Going ad-free, then, is a smart way for Amazon to differentiate. The only way to avoid ads is to pay for a subscription to a specific podcast or network, but the format is not yet mainstream enough for most consumers to consider this. Even if you pay for a Spotify subscription, you are forced to listen to ads during podcasts. But so far, advertisements have been largely unavoidable even for platform subscribers - a necessary evil - as they are a major way most platforms monetise the format. Ads are disruptive to the podcast listening experience, and 35% of podcast listeners report that they usually skip audio ads on podcasts. “The biggest thing don’t like about podcasts is all the ads,” Amazon Music VP Steve Boom recently told The Verge, adding that when Amazon asked customers about their wants, “The number one thing was, ‘Can you make it ad-free?’”. The sly move could be hugely impactful for the podcast market - and Amazon is one of the only companies in the landscape that can do it. But the announcement also included a major implication for podcast listeners: Prime members can now listen to a large selection of podcasts advertisement-free. In our list of the best podcasts right now, we've got political podcasts that look behind the news, comedy podcasts with your favourite funny people, and plenty of those all-important investigative whodunnits to keep you up at night. But hey, there’s got to be room for the golden oldies, too – as we await its fourth series, notorious investigative podcast ‘Serial’ is our number one. BBC Three’s April 2023 release, the fascinating ‘A Very British Cult’, has taken the world by storm (and made it to our top ten), while 2022’s ‘Unreal’ has claimed our fourth spot for being equal parts fun and nostalgic. So 2023 is in full swing, and podcast releases are showing no sign of slowing down. It is especially so for the reason that so large a proportion of the men enlisting are under 21 years of age. The recognition of this responsibility on the part of officers is vital to the well-being of the Marine Corps. In fact, it should partake of the nature of the relation between father and son, to the extent that officers, especially commanders, are responsible for the physical, mental, and moral welfare, as well as the discipline and military training of the men under their command who are serving the Nation in the Marine Corps. The relation between officers and enlisted men should in no sense be that of superior and inferior nor that of master and servant, but rather that of teacher and scholar. It must be fostered and kept alive and made the moving force in all Marine Corps organizations. The spirit of comradeship and brotherhood in arms which has traditionally existed throughout the ranks of the Marine Corps is a vital characteristic of the Corps. Each officer must endeavor by all means in his power to develop within himself those qualities of leadership, including industry, justice, self-control, unselfishness, honor, and courage, which will fit him to be a real leader of men and which will aid in establishing the relationship described below. Young Marines respond quickly and readily to the exhibition of qualities of leadership on the part of their officers. Title: Relations Between Officers and MenĪuthor/Presenter: Major General John A Lejeune, USMC Commandant of the Marine Corps And as a signifier of where Iommi wanted Sabbath to go, completely off-message. Exciting for the audiences that were there for the shows, perhaps, but utterly enervating on record, as draining as a coke comedown. This was primeval Sabbath, heavy as hobnailed boots trudging through mud, obnoxiously loud and overbearing. Plus a live album cost relatively nothing to make, an idea that particularly excited everyone.īut when Iommi listened back to the tapes, he was aghast. Sabbath had been going to release a double live album, à la Deep Purple, whose double live Made In Japan, released in December ’72, was now a colossal international hit. Iommi craved the one thing money couldn’t buy: respect. Iommi finally had his house with ‘everything’ and didn’t have to go out again – ever.īetween tours, while the rest of the band took their wives and girlfriends on long holidays, Iommi stayed behind to work alone in his new home studio, snorting coke and ‘creating’ long into the night. Susan’s wealthy father invited the newlyweds to move into his 200-room mansion on several hundred acres of grounds halfway between Birmingham and London. But it was clear from the day they got married in November 1973 that they were destined to remain strangers throughout the seven years they would be together. They were worlds apart, opposites that attracted. But we did go out to dinner, and that’s how it all started.” I found out she couldn’t sing – and she found out I hadn’t written a song for her. However, as he recounted in his 2011 memoir Iron Man: “She came up to my house one day and it was a bit awkward. Snowdon said she was a singer Iommi offered to write for her. Iommi had recently fallen for Susan Snowdon, a “posh bird” introduced to him by Sabbath’s manager. “I have a big house with a swimming pool now, but I want one with tennis courts and a studio, so I have everything in the house and don’t have to go out at all…” To get away from everybody so he could work undisturbed, the Phantom Of The Rock Opera. “I want to move to a bigger house,” he said. “I’ve got a few tapes of Deep Purple in the car, but I prefer to listen to things like Peter Paul And Mary, Sinatra, the Moody Blues and The Carpenters.” He wants Sabbath to carve out their own hallowed place in the pantheon, and for the name Tony Iommi to be up there, where he feels it belongs, alongside those of Jimmy Page and Ritchie Blackmore, Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton.Īs he complained in an NME interview that year: “On drawing power and album sales we can compare with groups like Zeppelin and The Who, although we seldom get recognition for the fact.” He wasn’t just a heavy rock guitarist, he complained. The others still feel more comfortable sitting at the back of the class, sneering at teacher. The other members of Sabbath want it too, but not nearly as much as Iommi does. Now all Iommi wants is to get back into the studio and produce the masterpiece that will, finally, he is determined, prove that Black Sabbath are as important, as worthy of serious consideration, as the bands they have been outselling, like the Rolling Stones and Deep Purple like anyone you would care to name, with the sole exception of Led Zeppelin, who are now outselling everybody. But eight months on the road has nearly killed them. What no one knows is that a few days after the Rainbow show there’ll be a phone call that quietly cancels what should have been Sabbath’s next US tour.
